Meet Lucky!

Hi, I’m Lucky, a happy adventure dog living in Park City, Utah. My journey here wasn’t easy. I was born in the hot New Mexico desert and abandoned in a cardboard box with my siblings. A kind delivery driver found us and brought us to Nuzzles & Co., a “no kill” rescue. I was gravely ill with Parvovirus and had to be isolated for treatment, during which all my siblings were adopted. Thanks to the care at Nuzzles, I made a full recovery, and soon after a weekend foster turned into finding my forever family and best friend, Scott.

The story behind Lucky & Friends

Hi my name is Scott and I am the owner of Lucky & Friends. I feel so fortunate to have Lucky as my best friend. We live in Park City, Utah where everyday is a new adventure for us. Lucky & Friends evolved out of a freeze drying facility which I own and operate. Prior to Lucky, our core team spent many years as one of the countries leading contract freeze drier for well known human food, and pet food/treat brands. When Lucky entered my life and after working with big pet food brands and seeing how much processing their ‘fresh’ food went through, we knew there had to be a way to create something better.

We worked with top vets and canine nutritionists to create recipes based on whole food formulations. Lucky and his sister Lucy along with many of his friends participated in the development group of taste-testers. Together, we created a first-of-its-kind product that has all the benefits of fresh food, has a taste dogs go nuts over, has a “compete and balanced” nutritional profile beyond AAFCO standards and is loaded with good stuff. We met so many adoring dog owners that meal prep for their pals so they were so excited to learn about our brand.

Our goal was to create something specially-balanced, nutritional, and shelf-stable to save your refrigerator space. You can tell that Lucky & Friends is special just by its appearance – it looks like real food! You can truly see the goodness.

Because Lucky & Friends is made in a USDA facility, all the food safety guidelines and processes associated with the USDA are incorporated into our product.
Our manufacturing is not outsourced - it's all done by us

Most brands are made in an unregulated facility or worst yet most subcontract out their manufacturing to a 3rd party. We are held to very high food-safety standards and can supervise the process at every step.
Fully cooked proteins to guarantee there is no salmonella or deadly bacteria

All proteins are lightly cooked to 165 degrees as you would do at home. According to the USDA this is the ONLY way to guarantee your fur baby's food is safe from harmful bacteria.

Travel and storage made simple

Lucky & Friends is freeze-dried. Through sublimation, moisture is removed from our product and we halt the decay lifecycle. This process keeps all the nutrients, flavors, volume, and coloring intact. It also means our product can be stored at room temperature, even after opening!

Our freeze dried dog treats is highly portable and great for traveling. Whether you need to take your dog’s treats on a flight, backpacking, or on a road trip, Lucky & Friends is light and portable.

Lucky’s is pantry stable and food safe. The weight of our freeze-dried products is reduced by 75%, making them convenient for any type of adventure – at home or on the mountain.

Affordability - in-house manufacturing passes on the savings

Many dog food companies outsource the freeze-drying of their products to us. However, it comes at a cost. Our firm along with other companies charges a fairly high premium for these services – and these expenses are passed on to you, the buyer.

On the flip side, because we aren’t paying anyone else to freeze-dry our own products, we aren’t spending extra. This means we can keep our prices affordable. Plus, you aren’t paying a premium for shipping fresh products that need temperature-controlled trucks.
